$99.94

  • Family Board Games
  • Ages 12 & Up – 3 to 4 Players

Product Description
Expand the Fun and Strategy! Building on the original game, Cities and Knights adds many new, exciting elements to the Settlers of Catan. Dark clouds are gathering over the peaceful island of Catan. Wild barbarians, attracted by the wealth of Catan, sailed to attack the country. Fortunately, warning has given Catan time to meet the danger. The size of the barbarian army corresponds to the number of cities in Catan. Thus, for Catan to fend off the barbarian attack, the players must form a knight force as strong as the barbarian force. In addition to the barbarians, players compete to build the three great metropolises of Catan. Each of these magnificent centers are worth two additional victory points. To build a metropolis, players must invest in city improvements. To acquire these improvements, players must acquire the three new types of Trade Cards- Coinage, Paper, and Cloth. These cards can only be gained by building a city next to mountain, forest, or pasture hexes. Prepare for new challenges and a longer game! The Original Settlers of Catan is required to play Cities and Knights. Includes 5-6 Player Expansion for Cities and Knights. (ages 10+)

  2. C. Dileo says:

This expansion pack for the base settlers game puts some twists into the classic version. I believe the classic version is still much better, but this is a nice change of pace for those who like variety. Keep in mind, this does not allow you to play more than 4 players still, so if you think the expansion pack will enable you to bring more folks into the fun, you should consider the other expansion sets.

The game itself is pretty well constructed. There are these little resource “flip charts” that are spiral bound and seem a bit flimsy. We’ll see how they hold up over time?

  4. Michael Bird says:

We finally got around to getting this, well, truth be told, my wife got it off my wish list for my birthday. We’ve played a couple times and are starting to get the hang of it.

It’s a bit more complicated and longer to play, there are more things to keep track of and probably a lot of different types of ways to win.

I do recommend getting this upgrade if you haven’t tried it yet.

If you’re new to the Catan games, you definitely want to start off learning the basic game first, before trying this out, but once you’ve played the basic game a few times, you’ll want to move to the several expansion packs and try them out.

The best thing about this game (and the others in the series) is that each game can be made different by using a few random factors, such as moving the resources around before starting and also by how you decide to tackle the position you end up in when it comes to deciding who goes first.

By using different expansion packs this basic game can be played thousands of different ways and depending on how the dice fall a good player can get challenged by an average player.

This series comes with a strong recommendation.

  5. Frank Sronce says:

The Knights expansion really hoses the player who is furthest behind (the barbarians always trash their city) and it makes mountain squares much more valuable than previously. We may experiment with some house rules, but as is it lengthened the game a lot for very little addition to the fun. The expansion may even make play more random, which Catan really doesn’t need.
