Product Description
Slowly, you begin to wake up. Bits of memory start to filter back into your mind. You remember the attack on the Mars base, trying to reach the shuttle bay, and then … what? If you thought trying to escape Mars base was bad … Doom: The Boardgame Expansion Set pits the marines against the legions of Hell on their home turf! So then, this must be Hell. With 36 new figures including six new monster types and three new marines, new map pieces, new skill cards, and an entirely new Invader deck, Doom: The Boardgame Expansion Set promises to dramatically expand and improve the basic game. Malevolent laughter booms in your ears, followed by a scratchy voice that says,”It?s not going to be that easy, human.? If that weren’t enough, try two new mods and new modes of play. Blast enemies across the room with the Super Shotgun mod. Wreak havoc with the Chainsaw Warrior mod. Reduce your buddies to leaking pieces of meat in Deathmatch and Capture the Flag play. Requires the original Doom Board Game to play.

2 Reveiws for Doom: the Board Game Expansion Set

  1. Doom is very similar to Descent. This is a clasic dungeon crawl, with there being one bad guy. It’s allot of fun.

Its a little dark, so its not for everyone.

  2. Adam says:

If you read my review for the main game then you know I was very impressed with it. In fact I was so impressed with the game that after only one night of playing with my friends I went out and purchased this expansion pack! It’s actually priced pretty well for the amount of stuff you get and the amount of time you can spend playing the game.

This expansion comes with more board pieces to add onto the already abundant cut out board pieces making your possible space station crawls even larger! You also get new character pieces for the player character and a few new monster pieces. These monsters are some of the others found on Doom 3 that we didn’t have in the first board game. My only disappointment on this level is that these new monsters merely replace existing monsters from the prior game. They don’t have new stats or anything. Thus in the story they only add the new ones and omit the old, I would have preferred to use all of them! You do get more power cards for the player character which only add to the game if you’re building up a character in campaign mode.

While I’m on the topic of game play… I guess its time to discuss that! This expansion comes with some great features in that regard. If you were a big fan of the campaign play, like I was, the expansion gives you the option of picking up where you left off. This still plays into the Doom 3 style of game play and if you enjoyed it during the original you’ll enjoy it here. You might be wondering if more of the same is getting old, but my friends and I didn’t really feel that way. The story was well written and the missions were fairly challenging. Something a lot of game fans might enjoy seeing is the added rules for a Death Match scenario. They offer rules for various types such as “king of the hill”, “capture the flag”, and so on. We haven’t tried these scenarios out yet, as we were never really big on Death Match even in video games, but looking over the scenarios they do look quite fun and we will probably try them out at some point. For now we were just really into the campaign.

Like the original game this didn’t have a system for leveling up the monsters if you want to bridge a campaign from the original set. Unfortunately we still haven’t come up with a good leveling up system for the monsters, but we’ll get to it at some point. For now that remains this games one and only downside. Other than that this expansion was a wonderful addition to an already awesome and fun game. I was so impressed with Fantasy Flights product quality and game design that I’ve ordered a couple of their other video game adaptations, namely Starcraft and World of Warcraft. I definitely plan on playing those in the near future and I hope they have the possibility of as much replay value as Doom does! As of now this is still one of the most fun board games I’ve played and if you like video games and table top gaming you can’t go wrong with this game.

P.S. This may seem obvious to me and other games, but for the inexperienced: this is not a stand alone game. You need the first set of the Doom Board Game in order to play this one.
