2 Reveiws for Great States Game

  1. We purchased this game for our 8 year old son this year. It is indeed full of errors. It is a fun game, and has educational value…but we find ourselves second guessing the answers to many of the question. We have even double-checked some of the facts on the Internet, as we are now somewhat skeptical of the answers provided.

I would wait for a ‘revised’ revised edition before I purchased the game again.

  2. Matt says:

This game was received for Christmas and is the new, revised version with 400 questions. But, it’s very sloppily done. The questions are chalk full of errors. For example, one question says “Name 2 states whose names have double N’s”. You’d think that Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Minnesota and Tennessee would be listed as answer, but guess what, the answer card neglects to list Connecticut. Likewise for consecutive S’s, the answer card is missing Tennessee. The question about listing 5 states starting with the letter “M” lacks Maryland as a possible answer. The card asking you to spell Massachusetts lists that answer incorrectly as s-t-t-e-u-h-c-a-s-s-a-M; it’s missing the “s” between “u” and the “e”. There are four sets of cards labeled fact, find, figure and fun, each with a corresponding icon of a paper clip, a magnifying class, gears and falling confetti. The spinner shows the icons and words as well but the magnifying glass is listed as figure instead of find, which constantly screws you up when you play the game. You do learn stuff but it just seems really, really sloppy. We found all these problem cards in just one game. Can’t imagine how many more we’ll find. The six year old in our house pointed out that there’s no compass rose on the map/gameboard which would be helpful to answer questions asking about which state is south of Colorado. Bottom line, it’s worthwhile and fun to play don’t play this game without an adult who can point out which answer cards are wrong since kids would take the answer card as gospel not realizing that the listed answers could be wrong.
