Product Description
Garry Kasparov has dominated the world of competitive chess longer than any other world champion. What better time than now, on the eve of his retirement, to celebrate his unprecedented achievements? The period 1993–1998, covered in this volume, represents one of the richest phases of his career. International Master Tibor Károly has selected some of the finest games of those years, and with the help of today’s computer programs, analyzes them to a depth never before possible—sometimes correcting the errors of earlier analysts. A unique look at the brilliance and versatility of the player many consider the greatest of all time.

I cannot recommend this book and the sequel “Kasparov’s fighting chess 1999-2005.”
The authors build mainly on Kasparov’s own analysis (given in Informator, NIC or elsewhere) and just enhance it with their own analysis, obviously much aided by modern computer programs. This results in variations and variations and sub-variations in lines that where not played at all…
The final product is an enormous amount of – mostly boring – annotations on some of Kasparov’s most famous games played in the given time period, no more and no less.
No photographs, no tournament tables and records are given.
A very dissapointing work on the greatest chess-player of all times.
But fortunately, Kasparov is writing his own books. His books on the 1985 and 1986 world championship matches are highly recommended and later this year a book by him will be released on all of his encounters against Karpov from 1975-1985. Further books by Kasparov on his own games from 1985 to 2005 are sure to follow.
Wait and buy Kasparov’s own accounts and skip the poor work discussed here.

The book is very enjoyable to read and give account of the tournament situation before every game. It also gives insights abouthow Kasparov usually play (powerchess!). The analysis are extensive but the concepts behind the moves are explained by someone that is able to explain difficult moves in a clear and simple way. I would highly recomend this book for any 1800 or higher chessplayer.
