Product Description
Is your family game night the bee’s knees, or are you stuck in a rut? Take a fun and educational ride through the world of idioms with Befudiom, the exciting new game that will have you drawing, acting, shouting, spelling and laughing all night long. An idiom is a phrase that’s used a lot in our everyday conversations even though its meaning doesn’t make a lot of sense when taken literally. Has the cat got your tongue or are you just having trouble thinking of something to say? Divide into teams of two or more and get ready to find out! Roll the dice to pick your idiom and how you’ll express it. Get creative as you act out “chip off the old block” or show off your artistic side when you draw “wolf in sheep’s clothing.” Describing “asleep at the wheel” might seem easy, but can your team guess with just a few letters as clues. Its all part of the fun! Roll a “Choose it” and you’re on easy street, you get to pick how you want to give the clue, but if you roll “Lose it,” watch out! The other team gets to decide. The whole family will love this game of mixed-up meanings where everything is easier said than done.

5 Reveiws for Merriam-Webster’s Befudiom- Family Game

  1. My family loves games so I thought this would be a big hit. But it wasn’t. Some of the idioms were so hard to guess that teams were constantly just giving up before the time was out. Can you imagine trying to draw “bur under the saddle” or acting out “whistling dixie” without using sounds? The premise of this game sounded really fun–but in reality, it wasn’t.

Read about Befudiom in Readers Digest and asap bought for our 9 year old birthday! She is Korean and of course doesn’t know our idioms. So perfect! We all love it, from 4 yr old grandson to 70 year old guest – everyone loves to play, act it out, talk, draw, whatever to get the team to guess the idiom! lots of fun. Hooray to the mother daughter who thot this up – hope they make a million!!!!!

  3. S. Peek says:

Befudiom is a game that is fairly good entertainment.

It is part ‘Pictionary’, part charades, and part ‘Wheel of Fortune’. Teams must incorporate acting, drawing, giving verbal descriptions (without using key words), and filling in blank letters in phrases to guess idioms.

Although we had fun with it, this is not a game that I would recommend too highly. It is good in the sense that those lacking in one area may be able to make up for it in another. For example, someone who is a terrible artist is at a huge disadvantage with Pictionary. In this game, that may create some problems for him/her, but it is not catastrophic.

The game is simple to learn and need not last too long. Those are the strengths. A lack of originality is the weakness. Nevertheless, this is a pretty good game that will provide a degree of enjoyment.

We purchased this game to play as a family. As homeschoolers we are always on the lookout for new and fun ways to learn. My 9 year old had a tough time with understanding what a lot of the idioms meant, which was actually perfect because he was learning. We changed the rules a bit to make it easier for him to play. My 14 year old high functioning autistic boy loves this game. Idioms are hard for him to grasp, but he enjoys learning them. Once he understood what the idiom meant, he would then have to portray it to the rest of his team, either by drawing, acting, or speaking. What great practice for him to read other people as to whether or not they are ‘on the same page’ as he is. It really is great as a tool for teaching idioms and for learning to really express yourself in very specific ways. Both kids now beg to play this game!

  5. I loved playing this game over the holidays with family and friends. Then I realized when teaching my 6th graders figurative language and we came to idioms, this was a perfect way to get them to know and understand them. Because they really have to think about the idiom, they are more conscious of them when using them in reading and writing. The students love it and we play in teams. Highly recommend this for family fun AND the classroom! Durable and really not something they can break which also makes it a nice investment for the classroom!
