IMHO one of the most difficult tasks in creating educational games is balancing fun with education. More often than not you either get token learning or a ‘game’ so clunky it neither educates nor entertains. I’m thrilled to say this game is both fun and educational. I bought it to play with my 8-year-old son who is very strong at math and was looking for a challenge.
The basic play involves Super Villains who have number values assigned to them. The goal is to build Super Heroes with the same numerical values (either alone or in combination with items and/or other super heroes) allowing you to capture the villain. Each villain also has a point value. The more difficult it is to construct their number the more points they are worth (e.g. the # 6 villain will net you a point but the # 43 villain will net you three points). Once all the villains are captured the game is over and whomever has the most points wins.
The mechanics are straight-forward and the ability to work on basic addition/subtraction/multiplication/division in my son’s head has really improved his mental math skills without feeling like flashcard drills. The artwork is wonderful and the mechanics are effective. The difficulty scales up nicely with the first expansion which adds non-integer cards like villain # 52.5 or a 2.5x hammer that will have even adults working through the math.
If you’re looking for a fun math game, I can’t recommend this product highly enough.

This is a lot of fun for the entire family. I have a 2nd grader and a 3rd grader. The art keeps the kids really involved. The two levels of complexity are really nice for lighter and heaver games. We can also play where once a super hero has been created we just write down the amount of the super hero which makes adding much easier.
