The build quality of this board is fantastic. It is similar to a high end cutting board with richly-stained, intricately-grained wood. See my uploaded picture which shows a board that is quite different and much nicer IMO than in the default pic. The finish is silky smooth with no rough edges or splintering. There are 4 rubber feet which support the board nicely. Unfortunately, they are glued on as opposed to screw-ins which would have been more durable (one of my feet fell off immediately and I was able to superglue it back on easily, but if it keeps falling off, I might just remove all 4 feet or get screw-ins). The pawns and fences are finished nicely. The storage box is made of heavy cardboard and should last a very long time.
The size of the board is 13″ square and 1″ thick. The actual playing field is 9″ square which is about the size of a small chess board. The sizing is just about right although a couple inches bigger would have been nice.
The gameplay is very simple to learn but offers many different complex strategies. Your strategy will need to change from game to game because a strategy that works once may not work again on the same opponent. It’s nice that you can play with 2, 3, or 4 players and there is a simple way to handicap players by adjusting the number of fences. This means parents and kids can enjoy this game together. If you haven’t played the game before, I would recommend playing an online version to see if you like it.
Overall, this is a game set that is showcase material and should last a lifetime or more. It is pretty expensive for a board game but be assured you are getting a high quality product in return.
