I think I thought I was buying a remake of “mystery date”. It’s clear that most girls in the 50′s had low expectations both of what “fun” was and about chosing your man. I bought this for my 6 year old and her favorite thing about it is the pastel colored dice.
Unless you clearly remember the original game and thought it was the bomb, don’t waste your money.

Instructions can be vague. We got barbies and dresses to add to the fun. It can take a long time because the dice only goes to 4 getting around the board seems to take forever one player kept getting sent to the home without ever getting past the first turn. we will ignore the go back homes in the future.

This game is just as I remembered it as a girl when I used to play my mom’s Barbie game from her childhood. Gave the reissued version to my daughters for Christmas (ages 6 and 8). They are in love with it! They’ve played it every day, several times a day since they received it. It is just as much fun for them as it was for my sister and I when we were kids. Noticed, though, that on one of the spaces on the board the word “without” is spelled incorrectly. That made me laugh.

This is totally a great game for girls. I gave it to my 6 year old granddaughter for her birthday and we played it over and over again. When my own daughter comes home, we love watching Gilmore Girls and playing the Barbie Game. Life was so safe and kind in the 50′s and from $5.00 allowance to picking a prom dress the Barbie Game is a step back in time and a wonderful memory of simpler days.
