Product Description
The essential guide to the use of tactics, the watchdogs of strategy that take advantage of short-term opportunities to trap or ambush an opponent and change the course of a game in a single move.
Amazon.com ReviewThis is the second in Seirawan’s four volumes, taking the reader from the very basics of chess through appreciation of advanced play. He does a remarkable job of discussing tactics that usually appear only in books for advanced players and communicating them to anyone with a grasp of playing fundamentals. The first part of the book deals with basic tactics and how they can be used individually and in combination. In the second part, Seirawan introduces some of the great chess tacticians and their games, further illustrating tactics as they work out in real-life play.

Yasser is a good author. The problem is this book lacks the meaningful content. He did explain it very well though.

I feel that some people like to complain about books (or anything for that matter) they don’t understand. This book does require some chess knowledge. It even says it in the introduction. If the less fortunate would read the fine print they would know what they are getting into. When you read a series of books, it usually helps to, and I’m just making a slight suggestion, READ THE FIRST ONE BEFORE THE SECOND! Doing so will set the mood for the second, then the third, and so on. So simply because you lack chess knowledge is not a reason to MisRate this fine piece of work, by one of the Top American GMs.

I’ve never seen such a good introduction to tactics. Seirawan explains everything very clearly, with excellent illustrations.
Seirawan included several hundred problems in the book. I’d recommend following up this book with Reinfeld’s 1001 Winning Chess Sacrifices and Combinations. In fact, if you’re a talented player, you might want to skip Seirawan’s book and go straight to Reinfeld. But most of us could use Seirawan’s book.

Please don’t discard this review because I am only 11. I consider my self to be a good reader and good chess player for my age.
Good points:
The Book covers a wide range of different tactics. A very, very good player will probably benefit from them.
Bad points:
The tests put me down as a very bad player even though i win a lot, even against some adults at the chess club. A lot of the stuff is tuff and I don’t see why I would need to figure out a very deep, deep idea that only a world champion can fiture out to make me do well on the tests in the book. It kind of puts a moderately good player down. I would give this book one or two more stars if it advertized its self as a book for more advanced players.
