Your Expedition has made an incredible discovery! One of your Raiders has brought you an ancient set of KȈR! (pronounced KEER)

Played by the poor and the powerful for thousands of years, KȈR is known as the most ancient of Argathian games. Though their empire is long lost, versions of this game still exist today, and you have fond memories of playing it as a youth.

The symbols in this ancient version are slightly different from modern versions, but they clearly still represent the powerful Rift Elements that sat at the heart of all Argathian power. KȈR has always been the paragon of insight into how the powers of the elements work.

In your studies, you learned that "KȈR" is the Argathian word for perfect action. That is the goal of every decision made in battle — to make all the right choices that lead to victory.

Every Skirmish, the dice hand you an army and the enemy an army, both in plain sight. What you do with yours in the next sixty seconds decides who walks off the field. Strike hard, hold the line, gamble on a perfect roll — or cut your losses and live to fight again.

Master KȈR and you master the dance of life and war.

Object of the Game

KȈR is a game of War.

A War is made up of several Battles. Each Battle is fought as a series of Skirmishes, and each Skirmish is played out over alternating Moves in which you place dice.

Win a Battle by reducing your Rival’s health to 0 — and win it with as much of your own health intact as you can, because your remaining health is your score for that Battle.

A narrow victory pays you almost nothing. A rout pays you everything. After the final Battle, the player with the most points wins the War.

How to Play

How to Play KȈR

KIR-Game-Photo.png

Both players roll their 5 dice at the same time. This way the battlefield is fully visible. Your job is to outsmart your opponent by guessing their strategy.

The Attacker this Skirmish goes first, placing 1 or more die (but at least 1). Then the Defender responds in kind. These are called Moves. Both sides make their Moves until all dice have been played.

You may go all in, placing all your dice for a big attack. Or you may play more cautiously, placing just a few die and drawing our rival out - forcing them to respond.

Each player takes 5 die. The dice are all the same, so any 5 die is fine. Set the board between you, and place blue health cubes on 6 for each player, the red "Attacker" cube in the DAWN slot, and green "Defender" cube in the DUSK slot.

KIR Perfect Action Rolls.png

If you roll 3 of a kind that's KȈR! (a perfect action).

These rolls are rare and powerful! You can win a Battle instantly, or end a Skirmish before losing all your health. Place your KȈR in the 3 slots on the board and declare your outcome!

Place your dice to respond to your opponent, or force them into action.

Place defense (Steelwood) die to block attack die (Blood Ore). Use your Wild die as any other single element result (for defense, attack or a type of movement).

Defend yourself in multiple ways.

Place a Steelwood (green) die or a Wild die (rainbow) to block 1 attack. Or, place 2 Sky Crystal die (purple) to Dodge, or 2 Blood Ore (red) to Parry 1 attack!

Score the Skirmish, win the Battle!

Determine how much unblocked damage each side takes, and reduce each player's health by that amount. If either player's health reaches 0 or less, the Battle is over!

The winning player scores their remaining health for that Battle. At the end of the Campaign (3, 5 or 7 battles), the player with the highest score wins the game!
